About this centre

The Spring Valley Kumon Centre first opened its doors in 2004. Starting with 5 children, we made it our mission to create a generation of confident, independent learners who take pride in their studies.

We provide this opportunity for children as young as 4 years old to teenagers and adults alike. We give our young students study in a separate room where they complete their Kumon worksheets and are encouraged to work on supplementary material such as flash cards, number boards, reading aloud etc. for mental stimulation.

Our centre has ten dedicated assistants who provide the guidance students need to take learning into their own hands, increasing their self-motivation to take on the challenge of learning new material.  Our centre is conveniently situated in a community recreational facility and as such we are fortunate to have not only a secure environment but also provide ample parking space.

Since its inception to date, Kumon Spring Valley continues to offer quality instruction to all its students. The award winning Centre has spread its tentacles not only in one but two locations within Nairobi city.

About the Instructor

My name is Nidhi Kent, Aunty Nishi to most of my Kumon students.  I have been a Kumon Instructor since the beginning of 2004.  When I was first became a Kumon Instructor, the thought of playing the role of nurturer and educator in the lives of many children was daunting, but very challenging.  I have been self-employed for over 20 years and have had vast experience working with different kinds of people from all walks of life.  The opportunity of working with young ones was quite a delightful change. Children are trusting by nature and if we are dedicated and caring and show trust and faith in the ability of our children, they usually rise above our expectations and excel in their achievements.  I learnt very quickly from my young students not to underestimate their ability to self-learn and excel.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
