About this centre

Syokimau Kumon Center was established in 2021. Our center provides a warm and welcoming environment for students to discover and attain their potential through the Kumon Method, whatever their current ability. High achievers and those who need to cover gaps excel well and beyond expectation as with many enrolled in the Kumon Study. This is because the Kumon method provides a unique approach that encourages self-learning at a very highly individualized level using very well-structured material. Another unique advantage in children is advanced concentration.
Syokimau Kumon Center provides opportunities to students right from three-year-old to adults. Kindergarten, primary, and high school students are very welcome to enroll as well as adults who want to sharpen their skills in Mathematics and English.
Syokimau Kumon Center is facilitated by a highly dedicated Kumon Instructor who works to support the gradual improvement and development of learners through creating a love for learning, healthy curiosity and above all, an independent learner. This is done by assessing the current ability of the learner and moving them well beyond that ability by creating a comfortable and individualized path to excellence.
Our aim is to provide a safe learning environment and contribute to our society by developing capable, sound and dependable individuals.

About the Instructor

My name is Joy and I began my Kumon journey as a Kumon student at the age of 5years old. I enjoyed my time at Kumon and constantly improved my abilities through careful instruction.
I took the opportunity to become a Kumon Instructor years later. Having experienced the benefits of the Kumon Method myself, I innately felt compelled to enroll as an instructor and provide the same safe-space to learn independently and excel as I did many years ago. To date I can attribute my great success both intellectually and emotionally to Kumon. My discipline and resilience are no doubt as a result of my Kumon Study path and as I humbly stand out in society, I would want the same for any learner. My instructor training gave me the opportunity to help learners attain their potential.
Being a graduate of Psychology and Counseling, I clearly see the relation between the Kumon Method and development of a confident, undeterred, self-aware and dependable individual. Indeed, the fascinating fact about the Kumon method is that any learner of any age, level or ability has a potential that can be attained further than one’s imagination. Thus, I believe I can facilitate a learner to attain their full potential.
Kumon has given me so much and now I am blessed to have a chance to watch students develop a healthy attitude towards learning, love for learning and to be great contributors in life.

How long does study take?

Study takes around 30 minutes per subject a day, depending on age and level of the work. Currently, study may be In-Centre and/or at home with online or messaging support.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
 
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
