About this centre

Online Classes Only
The Thigiri Study Centre started in 2018 and is situated at the New Muthaiga Shopping Mall in Thigiri Ridge, shop number 8, on the second floor.

The unique Kumon Math and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

The Thigiri Centre provides an opportunity for children from as young as 3 years old right through to teenagers, and is for adults too.

Kumon is a long term programme that makes any child “SMARTER”, not only at the centre but at school as well. It enables the learner to be focused and independent, becoming confident in various work skills.

Following an assessment the learner starts on the programme at an easy starting point. With expert instructions and an established programme the child becomes a self-learner who succeeds with long-term focus.

To further build onto the skills being developed, the centre encourages the students to read every day. The centre has a library and students are able to borrow books on a weekly basis.

The New Muthaiga Shopping Mall is a convenient shopping mall with a serene atmosphere, a large garden and a children’s play area. There is a supermarket, a pharmacy, beauty centres, a butchery, a coffee shop and a restaurant as well as many other facilities. Parents are able to do their shopping as they wait for their children, and the parking is free and secure.

At the Thigiri Study Centre the aim is for every child of any ability to progress and discover their potential with a positive attitude to study.
My name is Gurvinder Jandu, and my journey with Kumon started when I enrolled my son at the Nyali Kumon Study Centre in 2010. I watched him work with a lot of interest and his progress made me realise that I had done the right thing by enrolling him on the programme.

Soon afterwards I was given the opportunity of joining the Kumon Centre as an assistant and to explore the programmes at a deeper level. At first I saw it just as a part time job but with time it became a part of me.

Having a diploma in Systems Management, the idea of being involved in the development of children was always something that excited me, but not yet having the opportunity was demotivating. Being introduced to Kumon made me feel that I could achieve my dream of developing children and students. I soon realised that not only was I now able to be with children and to help develop them, but I was also learning a lot from them.

It is an amazing feeling to see the children improve not only their academic ability but also gain self-confidence with the ‘I can do’ attitude towards their work. The programmes support the children by building strong foundations in numeracy and literacy.

After an exciting time as an assistant I entered a more exciting era in the role of an Instructor, which I perform very eagerly. With my knowledge and experience over the past years I like to discover the potential of my learners as self-learners with excellent work skills, not only in their academic ability but as global all-rounders.
Training with the best team has nurtured my knowledge and ability to handle children from all age groups. At Kumon we let the children of all age groups start at their Just Right Level, and then progress step by step with confidence as they move at their own pace to master each level.

The maths programme is set in such a way that the children fall in love with numbers and develop enthusiasm towards completing the programme!

The English Programme is set in such a way that the children grow their skills in reading and writing, making use of new words that they learn and explore in their worksheets. It expands their knowledge by developing their ability to use vocabulary and memorisation skills.

Students learn through daily practice of each subject, each day aiming to work towards the achievement of their Standard Completion Time. The Kumon Programmes instill the right mindset and skills for self-learning to not only master work at their academic grade level, but to progress to study beyond their school grade level.

Most Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
