About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available
Thinking about the future, it is of utmost importance that children develop their potential to the fullest! They must aim for the sky and at least land among the stars. At Kumon Prosperita, young and old will be welcomed with open arms! Students are evaluated and a personalized plan is chosen, specific for their needs and level of development.
School-aged children are trained in the Kumon method of study which results in them mastering information that is even beyond grade level. This gives them confidence at school, knowing they are further along than their fellow students. The students’ grades go up and they also develop a positive attitude towards school.
Kumon Prosperita aims to teach our students; in life, you win or learn! They must see each mistake as another opportunity to learn and grow.
Both Mathematics and English are available at this centre. Reading will also be encouraged, to expand vocabulary and personal growth. Kumon is therefore more than just an academic program. The aim is to develop independent self-learners, supported by a team effort i.e., the centre’s team, the student, and their parents.
Kumon Prosperita operates from the Christian Family Centre, next to Windhoek Country Club. There is ample shaded parking.

About the Instructor

My name is Rethie Ahrens. I am an Instructor at Kumon Prosperita Study Centre. My background is Dietetics and working as a Pharmaceutical representative; far removed from teaching and any educational involvement. BUT, I have always loved helping others when they were not sure about something, be it computers or what the next step in their health journey would be.
Mathematics has always been a subject I loved at school and, I still use it today to calculate tips or change due. Besides my love for Mathematics, I must confess to also being a book addict. I was advised in high school to read more English books, to improve my vocabulary. Currently, I read more English books than Afrikaans or German. I realize that a lot of students struggle with Mathematics and English as both are challenging subjects. I want to change that belief into a love of Mathematics and the reading of, especially, English books.
What attracted me to Kumon was my love of Mathematics and knowing not everyone is equally enamored with it. It is also the way the students are guided to discover new information instead of being spoon-fed. This helps them to be more creative and see other options/ ways of doing something. Exactly what is needed for the future generation.

My name is Rozanne van der Merwe. I am a Biokineticist and, I love working with people! What inspired me to be a Kumon Instructor was hearing about Kumon through word of mouth! What I have learned through the whole Kumon experience, and as a parent of four myself, is that one of the most precious gifts you can give your child is SELF CONFIDENCE! And that is what Kumon teaches students (of all ages). It is not about the Maths or the English perse, it’s about teaching them the ability to solve problems by themselves through self-correction, curiosity, better concentration and a better study attitude! The result is a student who loves to learn and is reaching their FULL potential. And, that is what I want for my kids and your kids.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
