About this centre

In-centre & Online Classes KUMON CONNECT available
Known for being an academic hub of excellence right in the heart of our community, Dubai Knowledge Park is an ideal location for a Kumon Centre. Originating in Japan, this unique self-learning method is world renowned, and as one of the pioneers of Kumon in Dubai we are proud to open our doors in January 2022. We will offer individualised Maths and English programs, designed specifically to help your child achieve their maximum academic potential regardless of whichever curriculum they are studying at school.

We welcome students from the age of 6 years and of all abilities, and after an initial assessment, we will set your child’s work at a level that is just right for them.  This will enable them to progress successfully towards their learning goals through a combination of daily independent worksheet study and weekly classroom sessions.

With the option of studying either in person at the centre or online through a tablet, we will carefully observe your child’s progress, and guide them to be the best they can be. They will learn to build valuable skills such as self-confidence and independence, which will not only help them in school, but also in their future as adults.

About the Instructor

Monica Thawani
The joy and satisfaction I experience when watching a child gain confidence in school is the reason I decided to become a Kumon instructor.  I first discovered Kumon when I was living in the UK several years ago.  Friends would tell me that their children went for Kumon classes and it really helped them improve their skills in Maths and English, so I was very curious to learn more about this unique method of study.  However, before I could enrol my own children in a Kumon centre, my family relocated to Dubai.  Since Kumon was not available here, I contacted the Kumon Institute in Japan and asked them if I could open one here in Dubai, as I believed many more children could benefit from this amazing method.  Now, a few years later my dream of having my own Kumon centre has come true, and I am extremely excited to embark on this journey.

I started my career as a teaching assistant in Thailand and my motivation lies in trying to make a difference to the academic lives of as many children as possible. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them improve not only in Math, but in applying these skills to other subjects as well.  This has led to a lifetime passion in the development and education of children and I look forward to meeting and working with your child.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon in Dubai from the age of six upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
