About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available
The Buruburu Study Centre opened in February 2020 and is situated at Fairlane Centre (Uchumi) within the Buruburu Shopping Centre, on the second floor. We have a large, well-furnished class with a waiting area for parents. Our Instructor is well trained, with over 11 years’ experience with the Kumon Method.

The Buruburu Shopping Centre is at the heart of the Eastlands ‘business hub’. It is within a stone’s throw of a supermarket, shops as well as many other facilities. Parents will be able to do their shopping as they wait for their children, and parking is free and secure.

Kumon is designed for all people and all abilities – hence our mantra: “There is something new to be learnt every day.”  At Buruburu we cater to everyone, from pre-schoolers still learning their way through book and knowledge acquisition to adults wanting to improve themselves.

About the Instructor

I am Sally Muguna, the Kumon Buruburu Instructor. I am the proud mother of an 11 year old child, who is also a Kumon student. My journey with Kumon started with a desire from the onset of being a mother, to give my child a sound education and to train her to be her best self - a confident, self-assured individual to whom the sky is the floor. The Kumon Method was my answer. I had over 11 years of experience working in a centre before making the decision to open my own centre. With this experience, I acquired a vast wealth of knowledge regarding the implementation and facilitation of the Kumon, self-learning method. Besides Kumon, I have a background in computer studies, and in the past, worked with students to assist them with harnessing the power of technology in their studies.

A ‘high five’ after a higher level Kumon workbook is successfully conquered by the student, is part of the moments that get me out of bed every morning. I am passionate about developing children and bringing them to their full potential. Nothing brings me greater joy than witnessing one of my children soar and surpass their academic heights - achieving more than they imagined they would.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
