About this centre

The Kumon Rongai Study Centre was set up in 2020 to cater for learners of all ages. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. It offers educational assistance through the process of self-learning based on individualised abilities, incorporating Maths and English as tools to further this process.

The study centre is at the heart of Rongai Town in Kajiado North County, in the southern part of Nairobi and West of Ngong hills. It is situated at the Osigili Building, along Magadi Road.

Our centre welcomes children of all ages, as from 3 years to 18 years of age, and any other individual with the need for advancing lifelong study skills. We aim to foster confidence, encouraging good study habits, as well as improving the learner’s concentration skills. Moreover, we aim for our learners to advance way above their current school level of understanding.

Our staff is dedicated to propel all learners individually by discovering and maximizing their potential. They are always at the learner’s beck and call, ready to assist. The staff creates a warm and friendly environment by acknowledging all the Kumon Principles and Philosophies, especially the idea of kindness: “The Kumon Method Is Kind,” Toru Kumon the method founder said.

The centre is located within the commuter zone of the outskirts of Nairobi Town which is easily accessible by both public and private means. Despite the busy hustle of the small town, we are located inside a conducive environment with minimal distractions.

About the Instructor

My name is Carolyne Juma and prior to opening my own Kumon Centre, I had been a Kumon Assistant Instructor for close to 3 years. Having graduated as an English teacher my choice of career has propelled me to nurture learners, believing that each individual learner regardless of different abilities, all love to learn. I am proud to say I have mentored learners to completion of the Kumon English Programme.

My passion as an English teacher created opportunities for me to further my skills in the education field through the Kumon Method of learning. I strongly believe that with the ‘just right level of work skills’, an individual can attain their highest level of learning with ease. This is to say, every individual has their own way of attaining academic success; it highly depends on the attitude, confidence, study skills and most importantly, believing that making mistakes is part of the process, as long as you correct and learn from the mistake.

Throughout my Tertiary Education, I was able to learn about and interact with learners of different abilities, through incorporating psychological facts to further help understand learners more. The joy of a learner finally saying: ‘I tried, and did it!’ encourages me to always strive for excellence. With this in mind, and the influence Kumon has on a learner’s ability, I believe education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school. As a Kumon Instructor, I believe in the mantra: ‘Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, but involve me and I learn for a lifetime.’ This is what Kumon does!

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
